New FastPlank® Naming System: Clear, Logical, and Built for You

At Engage Building Products, we’re always looking for ways to make your job easier, whether you’re installing, specifying, or planning a project. That’s why we’ve completely refreshed the naming convention for our FastPlank® Systems product lines.

Gone are the old names. In their place is a clean, descriptive system that instantly tells you exactly what you’re looking at.

Why the Change?

The old names followed no pattern; they were simply the next number assigned when a new profile was created. Our new naming convention is different. It’s built on logic so that once you understand the structure, you can read any FastPlank® name and immediately know:

  • Which system the profile belongs to
  • Where it fits in the estimating and installation sequence
  • How prominent the finished look will be
  • The exact measurement of the profile

This makes it faster to find the right trim, easier to communicate with your team or suppliers, and simpler to plan your next project.

The FastPlank® Naming Philosophy

Every FastPlank® name is built from four consistent pieces of information, always in the same order. Reading left to right, the name answers four simple questions.
Structure: [System Code] [Series].[Prominence]<Indicator>.[Measurement]”

• A space separates the System Code from the rest of the name.
• Periods (.) separate the three numbered sections.

A Name at a Glance: Real Example

V 3.1.1-3/4” = V-Notch 2-Piece J Trim

Breaking it down piece by piece:

1. V — System Code Tells you this profile belongs to the V-Notch system.

2. 3 — Series / Position in Sequence Indicates where this profile falls in the estimating and installation sequence for the V-Notch system.

3. 1.1 — Prominence Describes the physical look and visual impact of the installed profile (e.g., Invisible, Low Profile, or Bold). The numbering system makes the level of prominence instantly clear.

4. 3/4” — Measurement The key dimension of the profile—in this case, 3/4 inch. Because the order never changes, you can quickly decode any FastPlank® name without hunting through catalogs or spec sheets.

Benefits for Contractors, Installers, and Specifiers

• Faster decision-making on the jobsite and in the office
• Clear communication between crews, estimators, and suppliers
• Easier training for new team members
• Future-proof. When new profiles are added, you’ll understand them immediately

We believe better product naming leads to smoother projects and fewer headaches. This is one more way we’re making high-performance aluminum cladding and trim systems more approachable and efficient for everyone who works with them.
